The image of Wu Xu
Some pillars are landscapes; Wu Xu is a fortress. Wu (戊) is Yang Earth, the mountain, and the Dog (戌, xu) is Earth too, the dry ridge of late autumn and the watchdog at the gate as night falls. Earth on Earth makes this one of the most massive pillars in the cycle and one of the Kui Gang (魁罡, kui gang) days, a traditional mark of commanding presence. The Dog also stores Fire, so this mountain keeps warmth locked in its core.
Inside the fortress sits a vault. Wu Xu's growth stage is Storage (墓, mu), the point in the twelve-stage cycle (十二长生, shi er chang sheng) where energy is gathered and kept rather than displayed. The Na Yin (纳音), Wood of the Open Plain (平地木, ping di mu), softens the picture with a single broad tree on flat land, visible for miles, offering shade to anyone crossing. Nobody mistakes you for a pushover. Kui Gang is a traditional name for a handful of day pillars: Wu Xu, Geng Chen (庚辰), Geng Xu (庚戌) and Ren Chen (壬辰). It's associated with strong will, leadership, intelligence and independence. It describes an intense, self-directed character rather than good or bad luck, and it tends to shine in roles with real authority.
