The image of Geng Yin
An axe walks into a spring forest, and the forest has a tiger in it. Geng (庚) is Yang Metal, raw ore and the unpolished blade; the Tiger (寅, yin) is the first month of spring, sap rising, predators waking. Metal cuts Wood, so on the surface you sit on your prey: the Tiger's Jia (甲) Wood is your Indirect Wealth (偏财, pian cai). But the Tiger also hides Bing (丙) Fire, the forge that softens Metal, and it hunts you back.
That's why your growth stage is Severance (绝, jue), the lowest ebb of the twelve-stage cycle (十二长生, shi er chang sheng): a blade in green, wet timber makes slow progress. Yet Wu (戊) Earth hides there too, the ore bed that renews Metal.
