The image of Jia Chen
Jia (甲) is Yang Wood, the tall trunk of the ten stems. Chen (辰), the Dragon, is the damp earth of late spring. Tradition calls it a storehouse (库, ku) because it keeps water in reserve, and its hidden stems (藏干, cang gan), Wu (戊) Earth, Yi (乙) Wood and Gui (癸) Water, give the tree soil, moisture and a companion at its roots.
The nayin (纳音, na yin), a second element and image that tradition gives each of the sixty pairs, is Lamp Fire (覆灯火, fu deng huo): a flame inside a shade, fed by wood.
