How the Tiger and Monkey fit together
The Tiger (寅, yin) opens spring with Wood, and the Monkey (申, shen) opens autumn with Metal. Six places apart, they form a clash (六冲, liu chong), tradition's image of two forces meeting head-on, and they also share the Tiger-Snake-Monkey punishment (刑, xing).
Metal cuts Wood, so the Monkey's sharp logic can land hard on the Tiger's pride. Yet both branches begin a season, and tradition links such branches with motion. Their clash tends to produce movement, such as new plans, new places and frank debate, more than stalemate.
